Note that when searching for an aircraft serial number, you must enter the full serial number without the leading "4" and without a dash in the Aircraft SN search field. For example, you would enter 42-37772 as 237772.

The Personnel name field searches both last and first names, so if you enter the search term, "Russ", the search engine will return both Russell Abel and James Russell.

You narrow the search by entering more characters into the search field. For example, "Russ" returns many hits. "Russell" returns fewer hits. The same principle applies to all queries.

The POW and KIA categories are list only and are not searchable.

Obituary

 Biondino, Vincent
Lieutenant Colonel Vincent R. Biondino, USAF Ret. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. His was surrounded by loving friends and family throughout his final illness and death. He passed away at his childhood home, in Bridgeport, where he had been living with his late wife, Lily (Smith) Biondino for the past 40 years. He was born in Bridgeport CT, in 1920, the son of Ralph Biondino and Carmella (Barbetta) Biondino. His was a lifelong, devoted member of St. Patrick's Church. Lt. Col. Biondino joined the U.S. Air force as a cadet at the age of 18 years. He did his training in Scotland. He was made Captain and between 1943 and 1945 he commanded the control tower at Thorpes Abbotts airbase, near Norwich England, where the 100th Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Forces took up residency equipped with the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. The Americans flew 306 missions from the base. The USAAF left the base in December of 1945, in that same year he married his late wife Lily Smith, an English woman, in Norwich England. Captain Biondino and his wife were then stationed in Newfoundland, Canada where he directed the work that installed telephone cable throughout the province. He had many assignments across the United States, including Fairborn Ohio, Rome New York and Biloxi Mississippi. As squadron commander, Major Biondino was stationed in the Basque region of Spain and lived in the small medieval town of Irun, just miles from the French border. This was his favorite place. He left there in the mid-sixties to command the control tower at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, NY and retired from that post as Lt. Colonel Biondino. After retirement, Lily and Vincent returned to live in Spain and spent many happy years there. Vincent became fluent in Spanish and the couple loved to travel, especially shopping trips to France. They returned to Bridgeport Connecticut due to Lily's declining health, where they could live close to the family. They spent many happy years there among friends and family. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins and was very dearly loved and will be missed very much. In addition to his wife he is predeceased by his brother, Charles Biondino and wife Isabelle, his brother, Dr. Ralph Biondino and wife June, his brother, Reverend Joseph Biondino, and his sister, Nanette and her husband John. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 9:00 AM DIRECTLY in St. Patrick Church, 851 North Ave., Bridgeport with a Mass of the Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport with full Military Honors. There will be no calling hours.
