Norfolk, (4 1/2 miles E Diss) Allocated 8AF as bomber base 4
June1942. First occupied 8AF June 1943. Officially
transferred 8AF 20 July 1943. Transferred RAF 20 December
1945. Built 1942. Main contractor, John Laing
& Son. Runways: concrete, 6300 ft. (099), 4200 ft.
(350) and 4200 ft. (043). Aircraft dispersals: 36 pads with
15 loops added later in construction. Hangars: 2
dispersed. T2 Camp: utility buildings for 2894 persons. |
