Crash: Flak hit between the No. 2 engine and the fuselage on the bomb run. The propellers on the left side both ran away but there was no fire. The aircraft left the formation and returned with escorts from the 361st Fighter Group. 564 made an emergency landing about 10 km southeast of Breda, Holland. The crews successfully set the aircraft afire. This B-17 was not a 100th aircraft and was on detached service from the 95th, a sister group of the 100th also in the 13th Combat Wing.

Crew Notes
Captain Nance reported after the war, "A Gunner, Jerry Sorenson, Idaho, was killed when some of the evaders were fighting the retreating Germans around Brussels together with the Belgian Resistance. (This gunner was Sgt. Gerald E. Sorenson of the 96th Bomb Group who was killed September 3rd, 1944. Sorenson was interred in the Cemetery at Ganshoren. This cemetery is located in the northern part of Brussels, Belgium. Sgt. Sorenson is still interred in the original grave in this Belgian cemetery.) pw
