Casualty Report from September 11, 1944

Detail

MACR: 08817

Target: Ruhland, Germany

Base: Thorpe Abbotts, Norfolk, England

Crash: Destroyed by enemy fighters. Reported to have exploded in the air with some of the crew being blown clear of the aircraft. Wreckage site near Annaberg, south of Dresden, Germany. Seven of the nine man crew were killed. German records indicate that T/Sgt Milton S. Edelstein was interred in the local cemetery at Oberwiesenthal and T/Sgt Mike Bagdasian was interred in the cemetery of Crottesdorf/Erzgebirge. It is likely the remaining five KIAs were also interred at Oberwiesenthal. After the war the US Graves Registration Service exhumed the bodies and re-interred them in Ardennes. Plots HH-4-95/100 and II-4-76/82. The US Graves Registration Service, like the Germans, could not individually identify the airmen. All received a Common Plot in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri on February 27th, 1950, Plot 78/957-961, Group Burial 1200/570.
