Notes: Colonel Kennedy was in charge of gunnery training in the States and was in the ETO on an inspection tour; he elected to go on the Regensburg mission to observe "his gunners," as he always referred to aerial gunners in the Eighth. He was, off course, under no obligation to fly combat missions and had to use his rank with the 100th Operations Officer to be allowed to fly. Colonel Kennedy was one of a very few state-side officers to gain the respect of the 100th's combat personnel.
