With two engines on fire the aircraft assumed a sever nose down attitude, with the ensuing increase in airspeed 861 pitched up to near vertical - indicating the aircraft was not being controlled from the flight deck. The tail assembly separated from the aircraft - crashed in the area of Stendal, Germany. Four crewmen perished and six were taken prisoner.
