Crash: While returning in adverse weather conditions the formation was forced to disperse. 636 was seen to enter the cloud deck south of Liege, Belgium. There is no further information on the fate of the is aircraft. Unsubstantiated reports leads to the assumption the aircraft may have crashed in the English Channel, perhaps in the Calais or Dunkirk area. This is based on the fact F/O Giebelhaus was re-interred in Netherlands beside an airmen (not identified in the report) who washed ashore at Coxyde in Belgium. This is somewhat north of Dunkirk.
