Crash: :The planes were hit by FW190's as soon as they came out of the clouds, shooting down both Capt. Lohof/Capt Putnam and Lt Vollmer. Lt Gossage was also damage and was making his way to Sweden but landed instead in Denmark. Michael P. Faley Gossage attempted to make Sweden but was unable and landed in Germany. According to Jan Riddling this is amoung the first B-17's captured by the Germans.

Report Notes
German Reports: Emergency Landing after anti aircraft damage. 12:15 hours at Airbase Schleswig-Land. Aircraft was landed after shot and destruction of the left outside engine. No additional damage-on the airbase and will be transferred. 10 prisioners. 9 were transferred from Schleswig to Oberursel, 1 is in Res. Hospital. To HQ Air District XI Hamburg-Blankenese 3 A.A. Division shot at aircraft flying on from the Southwest into the area between 1115 and 1122. Flight out of the area to north over Glashuette Wilstedt. Also an aircraft was shot at between 1134 and 1138 which came into the area from east. Flight out of the area to north over Elmshorn. Shortly after 1200 a Boeing 17 landed at the Airbase Schleswig-Land forced down by defect through AA shooting. One man of the crew was badly wounded. A 4 engine enemy aircraft crashed in Hoheaspe 1140 5 men dead, 6 men badly wounded. 3 A.A. Division claims for both downed
