Database Search

You are in the database section of the website.

Select a record category from RECORDS above. When you have selected a category, you will see search options for that category above the record list.

Most fields require at least three characters. When you submit your query, the search engine will return all records that contain your search term.

Note that when searching for an aircraft serial number, you must enter the full serial number without the leading "4" and without a dash in the Aircraft SN search field. For example, you would enter 42-37772 as 237772.

The Personnel name field searches both last and first names, so if you enter the search term, "Russ", the search engine will return both Russell Abel and James Russell.

You narrow the search by entering more characters into the search field. For example, "Russ" returns many hits. "Russell" returns fewer hits. The same principle applies to all queries.

The POW and KIA categories are list only and are not searchable.

351ST SQDN.. CREW, AS ABOVE, JOINED THE 100TH ON 04 MAR 45
THE NAME OF THEIR AIRCRAFT "THE SUPER GOOSE" 43-39424 (per info from Lt Johnson in Oct 2007) Near the end of our tour we were given a brand new B-17G and told that if we took her up and tested her out, she would be our plane. We flew her on our last two missions and two Chowhounds.

The artwork was suppose to be a Fist with a Thumb straight Up which was designed by the Navigator. According to Lt Johnson, he flew two missions as a CP with other crews before flying his first misson with his own Crew. He said his first mission was to Berlin and he had gas so bad he was afraid to pass gas in fear of soiling his pants. He would never live it down. On his first mission with his Crew, March 18, 1945, he witnessed 3 B-17's get hit by Me252's and go down in flames. He could not believe his aircraft was not hit in the atack. Lt Carpenter was the dry wit of the Crew. Carpenter would say things like, "Hey Lt, you’re here in Combat yet your not old enough to vote" or when flak would come up, he would say "I don't think these people like us over here" and Lt Carpenter would refer to flak as "Black Black Flares"
