Database Search

You are in the database section of the website.

Select a record category from RECORDS above. When you have selected a category, you will see search options for that category above the record list.

Most fields require at least three characters. When you submit your query, the search engine will return all records that contain your search term.

Note that when searching for an aircraft serial number, you must enter the full serial number without the leading "4" and without a dash in the Aircraft SN search field. For example, you would enter 42-37772 as 237772.

The Personnel name field searches both last and first names, so if you enter the search term, "Russ", the search engine will return both Russell Abel and James Russell.

You narrow the search by entering more characters into the search field. For example, "Russ" returns many hits. "Russell" returns fewer hits. The same principle applies to all queries.

The POW and KIA categories are list only and are not searchable.

According to Capt. Norris Norman, from his recollections dated December 16, 1987, he talked with both Lt Norman Scott and Lt Strout both individually and privately. Scott asked me if I heard the rumour about him trying to bail out, I replied Yes. He said "It's Just Not True. I didn't do it." Strout said " I just can't force myself to do it any more". Most of the crew did not believe the bail out incident occured and there was not one word over the intercom to indicate anything of this nature. As far as I know, Gale Cleven is the only one that does. Scott and Strout were transferred to Bovingdon, to indoctrinate replacement crews. Scott, Paddy, and Parks are deceased.

Some time ago I submitted a picture of Capt Norman H. Scott crew with my uncle 1st Lt Teddy Dudziak who was the co-pilot until being transferred to be a pilot on a B-24 stationed out of Wending, England with the 392nd. Well, I found another image of the B-17 crew with my uncle in it that I thought you might like to have. My uncle is the third from the left. Looks like the name of their aircraft was Gremlin. Also is another image that I had with the officers in a lighter mood during Christmas 1942.
