This was the second mission for the above crew; EYEWITNESS REPORT: A/C #591 (Petersen) was flying right wing on A/C # 095 when 095 (Lt Wilson) was hit by a ground rocket and collided with # 591. The nose section of # 095 was sheared off, but it appeared to remain under control and peeled out of the formation. Five chutes were seen from # 095 as it "SSS" back toward the channel. A/C #591 was last sighted about three miles south of Boulogne at 1015 hours.

349th Sqdn. Crew, as above, joined the 100th Group on 21 Feb 1944. On 5 Jun 1944, Lt. Donald Roth, CP on the F.J. Herres crew, was flying in place of C.E.Adams and was KIA. S/Sgt Glover Nall, from the J.A. Harrison crew, was flying in place of G.B.Donhoue and became a POW. On 5 Jun 1944 the Wilson crew was flying a brand new silver B-17G 42-107095, XR-F since they were now a lead Crew. shilaylee was Lt Wilsons aircraft prior to receiving this new plane.

Technical Sergeant Paul Zima, born 1 Feb 1920, was the son of Paul and Marie (Kurtz) Zima of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He left a wife, Anne, and son Robert, in Chicago.
In the 1930 census 10-year-old Paul is living with his parents and siblings Raymond 13, and Doris 6, at 5210 S Albany in Chicago. His father is a finisher for a furniture manufacturer.
In the 1940 census 20-year-old Paul is living with his parents and siblings Raymond 23, and Doris 16, still at 5210 S Albany. His father is a “sprayer” for a kitchen cabinet mfgr company. Paul is a die caster for a specialty molding company.
Paul married Anne C Roberts sometime after the 1940 census and before the Oct 1940 draft registration.
On his Oct 1940 draft registration Paul lists his wife, Anne, as next of kin at 5210 S Albany in Chicago. Paul is a “die caster” for Heicks Mold Shop (think specialty foundry).
Paul enlisted in the Air Corps 8 Apr 1942 in Cool County. He‘d had four years of high school and was married without dependents. His civil occupation was listed under machine shop and related occupations.
The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for Illinois show Zima, Paul, Sgt from Cook County as killed in action 5 Jun 1944. Paul was radio operator on B-17 #43-37591 which collided with B-17 42-104095 and crashed two miles east of Neufchatel-Hardelot, Department du Pas de Calais, Nord Pas de Calais on 5 Jun 1944. Anne never remarried. She passed a way in Highland, Lake County, Indiana 17 May 1985 from congestive heart failure.
