Stewart Evans: The aircraft crashed onto the Coastguard Cottages, Langar Road, Felixstowe whilst on a practice flight. The cottages had been requisitioned by the RAF and were used as the headquarters of the No 3 AAPC, RAF Regiment. Three members of this AA unit were killed in the crash and one badly burned in the cottages. The aircraft was simulating bomb attacks when a fire broke out in the cockpit area. Three of the crew were killed and six returned to duty, 350th Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group. Pilot 2 Lt John T Dyatt, Command Pilot Capt Stanley A Clark and Engineer S/Sgt Donald A Gustavson were killed.
Stewart Evans: The three RAF personnel killed were LAC Archibald C Coward, RAF Clerk; LAC Leslie Patrick Orrom, RAF general duties; and Cpl David Postlethwaite, RAF Armourer. Flt Lt Duckworth King suffered severe burns.
