Crew Notes
There is conflicting information concerning the fate of this 100th crew. Melvin F, Cordray stated after the war that Burleigh bailed out and the others crashed with the plane. German reports say that Lt Hamerick was shot when he offered resistance, together with Sgt. Minear and one "Unknown." There is some difficulty in understanding how an airman could have been shot while offering resistance and not be identified. He would have had identity tags the same as the other two. This is likely a translation error or the airmen were killed by civilians before the German military could find them. (paul west)
