Base: Thorpe Abbotts, Norfolk, England
Crash: Damaged by fighters prior to the target. The bombs were salvoed and the aircraft attempted to return along. The crew were forced to abandon the damaged 334 near Helen, Germany. Crash site is unknown. The surviving crewmembers reported considerable small arms fire on the ground and it is believed those killed were shot by Germany civilians. British and American ground troops were already in the area plus the fact German military personnel as a matter of policy did not harm airmen not attempting to escape, the airmen were almost certainly killed by civilians. This type of conduct by German civilians became all to prevalent near the end of hostilities.
