Crash: Attacked by enemy fighters and forced to leave the formation near Leipzig. Crew called on VHF at 1455 hours and gave position as 50 25N & 04 20E with 75 gallons of fuel remaining. Intention of making a crash landing near Paris, France. The crash-landing was made near Joigny - the aircraft was later salvaged. T/Sgt William C. Terry bailed out at the time of the attack and was taken prisoner. S/Sgt Ray D. Carl was wounded at taken to a hospital in Paris and later transferred to a UK hospital. The rest of the crew returned to Thorpe Abbots, September 21st, 1944 after this, their thirteenth mission. Afterwards they completed their tours. (paul west)
