"A/C Nos. 528, 623, 636, and 648 from the low squadron, were all knocked out at 1035 hours, 5417N - 0927E by enemy aircraft. Due to heavy attack and cloud conditions close observation was not possible. 3 chutes were seen but unable to determine which aircraft they came from."
No DataCrew joined the 100th 9 May 44. This was probably their first or second mission. Lt. Joseph C. Silvestro from the crew of E. P. McKeague, was flying as NAV and was also KIA. One un-confirmed report a 1000# bomb from the high squadron struck the aircraft forward of the stabilizer breaking the aircraft into. The main part of the fuselage immediately went into a tight spin which may have precluded any crewmember egressing the aircraft.
