Eyewitness1 LNameEyewitness1 FNameEyewitness1 Report "The group in which A/C 695 was flying was attacked by 50 to 70 enemy aircraft. The attack caused at least three of our aircraft to explode and most of the others appeared to be damaged, some were attacked again as stragglers. In a few minutes all but one disappeared beneath the undercast. Since none of them returned no account of the loss of specific aircraft is available. About half of them appeared to be under control as they disappeared into the undercast. Two chutes were seen before the aircraft disappeared, but from which aircraft they came is undetermined,"
Eyewitness2 LNameEyewitness2 FNameEyewitness2 Report Jack Eppendorf was originally on the crew of R .A. Wegrzynek and Ralph Jacobson was on the original crew of L. W. Riegel. "Destroyed by enemy fighters. Reported to have exploded in the air with some of the crew being blown clear of the aircraft. Wreckage site near Annaberg, south of Dresden, Germany. Seven of the nine man crew were killed. German records indicate that T/Sgt Milton S. Edelstein was interred in the local cemetery at Oberwiesenthal and T/Sgt Mike Bagdasian was interred in the cemetery of Crottesdorf/Erzgebirge. It is likely the remaining five KIAs were also interred at Oberwiesenthal. After the war the US Graves Registration Service exhumed the bodies and re-interred them in Ardennes. Plots HH-4-95/100 and II-4-76/82. The US Graves Registration Service, like the Germans, could not individually identify the airmen. All received a Common Plot in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri on February 27th, 1950, Plot 78/957-961, Group Burial 1200/570. Lt Teague-Bom, T/Sgt Runyan-TTE and Lt Nielsen-NAV who are also in the mass grave, were from the crew of Lt Harold Taylor. From Carlton Crew: Edelstein, Bagdasian, Watrous, Jacobson, Schaefer, and Eppendorf.
