Harold E. Nehrenberg served at Thorpe Abbotts from 1943-1945.  Nehrenberg started the war as a Private, and was later promoted to Staff Sergeant.  Nehrenberg was frequently referred to as “Nose”, a nickname he had prior to the war, and he often included a nose logo when signing his name.  Before joining the Air Corps, Nehrenberg held a number of civilian jobs and also claimed to have worked at the circus.



Nehrenberg served as Assistant Crew Chief to Dewey Christopher. According to Christopher, Nehrenberg was always known for being a funny guy and a jokester; however Nehrenberg was also a great mechanic who always got the job done. After V-E Day, Captain Bill Carleton promoted Nehrenberg to Warrant Officer.



After the war, Nehrenberg remained in the Air Force and later retired as a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO3). Nehrenberg attended several 100th Bomb Group reunions, and served on the planning committee for the 1973 reunion in Milwaukee. Nehrenberg passed away on December 5, 1997, and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery (Sec: 64, Site: 7333).
