Comments: I am just trying to find some information on my father Elvin Ray Farris..from his discharge papers it says 100th Bomb Group Army of US..HQSDET Discharge date was 26 Dec 1945 He was in England for most of his duty but did go to France and Germany..
I have a picture of him on my website..www.geocities.com/just_a_texas_woman1955/mydad was hoping someone could look and tell me about the uniform. I know in 1949 he re-enlisted in the Air Force Reserve but no further information.

The photo was taken as a graduation photo of your dad before he went overseas. He is in an enlisted mans Army Air Corp Uniform and looks like he is wearing the Good Conduct medal and American Campaign medal ribbons. His lapel circular badges would have US on one side and "Wing and Prop" on the side you can see. Your Father did serve with the 100th Bomb Group and was in the 418th Bomb Squadron, assigned to engineering. There is a photo of him on page 42 in the Groups Unit History "Contrails, My War Record" (only available on ebay or through hard to find book sellers) along with 3 other members of his Ground Crew. I do know he worked on a "Pathfinder (radar equipped B-17)" aircraft with the serial number 42-97564 "BELLE OF BERLIN". As for his discharge papers go, HQSDET means Headquartes Detachment.
