Michael R Gabor
Michael R Gabor of North Tonawanda, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Rosa Coplon Jewish Home and Infirmary, at the age of 96. Born in Byrnedale, PA, Michael was the son of the late Andrew and Susanna (nee Mergers) Gabor and resided in North Tonawanda for over seventy-five years. Michael was a U.S. Army Veteran of W.W. II serving his country from 1942-1945. Michael was possibly the last living survivor of the 100th Bomb Group Assn., 350th Squadron, known as the Bloody 100th from W.W. II. He was on the Memphis Belle where he worked on the ground crew getting the planes ready for their missions after the war.
Michael and his late brother, Andrew "Andy" co-owned Gabor's Appliances on Oliver St. and when Andy retired he co-owned it with his nephew, Tom Gabor,
He lived with his sister, Kathryn and her son, Ken for over sixty years. Michael was a life member of Tonawanda Post 264 and a member of O.L.C. Holy Name Society. Michael enjoyed bowling and golfing and was an avid sport fan where he could sit for hours watching his favorite teams, the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills and Sabres. He was also generous with giving to various charities.
Brother of the Late Susan Pytlik, Mary Blasko, Elizabeth Torok, Anna Szoka, Andrew Gabor, Kathryn Cesa, Rose Jesz and Helen Andrzejewski. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
The family will be present to greet relatives and friends on SUNDAY November 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 at THE SABER FUNERAL HOME, 549 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda (692-0271) where prayers will be offerend on Monday at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Celebrated at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church at 9:30 AM. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Flowers graciously declined. Memorial Gifts may be made in Michael's honor to Hospice Buffalo or O.L.C. Church.
Tonawanda Post 264 will have services on SUNDAY at 3:30 PM
