August 1944...Stateside  at YUMA Flexible Gunnery Diploma he signed 12 August 1944,1st Lt Eugene Muttersbeck School Sec for the Commanding Officer.

Came to Thorpe Abbotts in Oct 1944 and returned to the States in July 1945.  He was the Group Gunnery Officer.  He flew 7 missions as a Waist Gunner.  He flew to Munich on Feb 25, 1945 and to Dresden on March 2, 1945.

Eugene Muttersback Obituary



Eugene Muttersback passed away on April 25, 2017 in Yuba City, CA. He was 97 years old. Gene was born in Colusa on January 28, 1920 to Fred Muttersback and Grace Pryor Muttersback. Gene attended Colusa Grammar School and graduated from Colusa High School in 1938 and lived in Colusa until he retired. When he retired, he moved to Yuba City. 



He was preceded in death by his former wife Yolanda Muttersback and his son Richard Muttersback. 



He is survived by his daughter Karen Soares and two grandsons, Evan and Austin Alexius of Citrus Heights, CA. He is also survived by his long time friend and companion June Pogue of Yuba City, CA and his nephew Douglas Weber and his niece Carole Muttersback Aubrey of Santa Rosa.



Gene was a World War II veteran. He served in the Army Air Force from 1941 to 1946. He was a Captain in the 8th Air Force 100 Bomb Group and was stationed in England. He was a tail gunner and flew many missions over Germany as a Combat Gunnery Officer. He earned several decorations and citations; Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern with One Battle Star and the American Service Medal. 



After the war, Gene returned home to Colusa and started Muttersback Insurance Agency which he owned for over 35 years. Gene was a member of the Colusa Golf Club and the Colusa Lions Club for many years. He was also a member of Sons in Retirement in Yuba City. Gene's hobbies were hunting, fishing and traveling.
