Memo 1:
Smith, Lyle G. Age 90 Of Edina Died peacefully at home on July 26, 2008. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; and sons, Darryl and Duane. Born August 5, 1917 in Ottertail County, MN, the eldest child of Herbert and Jeanette Smith. Graduated from Perham High School in 1935 and then worked on the family farm and in a bank in Dent, MN. Married Dorothy Snider of Duluth on March 24, 1943. During WWII, served in the U.S. Army 8th Air Force, 100th Bomb Group stationed in Thorpe Abbotts, England. After the war, attended the U of M and graduated in 1948 with a degree in accounting. Employed by Northwest Tractor and Equipment Company and later by Ford Motor Company, Tractor and Farm Implements Division until his retirement in 1980. During his retirement, Lyle enjoyed golf, carpentry, working on cars and travel. His family thanks the staff of Hospice of the Lakes and other friends who provided care and support during Lyle's protracted struggle with multiple myeloma. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday. July 31, 2008 at 11 AM with visitation 1 hour prior at CHURCH OF ST. PATRICK, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane, Edina.
