Memo 1:
Sgt. Robert G. Keyes enlisted in January 1942, and underwent his initial training at Lubbock Army Airfield with the 83rd Service Group.
At Thorpe Abbotts, Keyes was assigned to the 456th Sub-Depot and worked in sheet metal fabrication and repair. As a side job, Keyes gave haircuts on base and estimated he gave nearly 10,000 haircuts with his electric clippers during his years at Thorpe Abbotts. Keyes also worked as an instructor for the link trainer on base.
Robert Keyes married Alerta Naomi Thompson on September 3, 1945 in a Church of England. ceremony at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Keyes returned to the U.S. in the fall of 1945 aboard the RMS Queen Mary, and was discharged in December 1945. Alerta joined him in New Mexico in August 1946.
