Len Rosenfeld, who passed away September 10, 2014, played an outstanding role in the formation of what is now known as the 100th Bomb Group Foundation. The Foundation had its roots in the 100th Bomb Group Association which was formed in 1980 by the legendary Lt. Colonel Robert Rosenthal--forever known as “Rosie”--and Len Rosenfeld. At the time the Association was the principal “alumni” organization of veterans of the 100th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force . The Association sponsored Reunions every two years in various cities across the nation.
From day one, Len served as Secretary and legal counsel of the Association. He also helped organize the original Foundation in 1985, which then was primarily involved in funding the 100th Bomb Group Museum at the Group’s base at Thorpe Abbots . Len also founded the Auxiliary in 1990 which primarily served relatives of 100th Bomb Group veterans. Len served as legal counsel for all three of these organizations until 1992. Subsequently, in 1999, the three organizations were merged with the Foundation as the surviving organization.
Len attended reunions of the Foundation and its predecessor organization religiously--he last attended the reunion in Cleveland in 2011.
The 100th Bomb Group Foundation owes a debt of gratitude to Len Rosenfeld for his tireless efforts

Leonard J. Rosenfeld died peacefully on September 10 at age 98. He grew up in Staten Island, NY, lived for 46 years in Mt. Vernon, NY, and spent the last 22 years as a resident of the community of Foulkeways at Gwynedd, in Gwynedd, PA. AB, Harvard, 1937; MA, Columbia, 1939; LLB, NYU, 1946. US Army Ordnance and Air Corps (100th Bomb Group), 1942-45. Lawyer for Schenley Industries, 1946-81. Married 63 years to Adele, nee Siegel. A lifelong artist, reader, Bible student, hiker, music lover and sports enthusiast, he is survived by two daughters, three granddaughters, 10 great grandchildren and one great-great on the way.
