Memo 1:
Tom McCarley, I've seriously only begun looking through the microfilmed USAAF records you brought to PSAM. This jumped out – a photo of Maj. Karl Standish, original cadre and first ground exec of the 100thBG - and, according to his handwritten note on the back, he claims to be the first man ever to be assigned to the 100th BG.

Am damn proud of the distinction of being the first officer or man assigned to the 100th Bomb Group at Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho.
Joined as Captain; promoted to Major, Jan. 22, 1943. Assigned as Group Adjutant.
In civil life have been newspaper man, mechanic, superintendent for United Fruit Co. in Guatemala and Costa Rica (8 years), secretary to Congressman (13 years), Veteran of World War, serving in 101st Field Artillery, 26th Division, 21 months in France; five major engagements.
