Carle, Norman L., III 

 

Of 28 S. Fremont St., Janesville, died Monday, July 13, 1998 at his home 

following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 11, 1921 

in Janesville, the son of Norman B. and Esther (Lemke) Carle II. He graduated 

from Janesville High School and Milton College. Norman was a lifelong 

resident of Janesville. He married Rosemary Mooney on June 8, 1946 at St. 

Patrick's Rectory. 

 

Norman served in WW II with the 100th Bomb Group. After returning, he went into 

the family tobacco business and eventually took over the company. Years 

later, as the tobacco industry declined, he went to work in management for 

General Motors, retiring in 1975. Norman was a member of St. Paul's 

Evangelical Lutheran Church, Janesville, Janesville Country Club and a former 

member of Eastman's Hunting Club. For the past 23 years, Norman and his wife 

traveled extensively, especially abroad. He was a master gardener at Rotary 

Gardens, and a member of the "Grumpies". He enjoyed hunting, fishing and 

gourmet cooking. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary of Janesville; 2 daughters: Marianne 

(Alan) Buschmann of Whitefish Bay, WI, Catherine (Jeffrey) Kervin of Mequon, 

WI; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Gretchen and Theodore Kervin, all 

of Mequon and Gabrielle Buschmann of Whitefish Bay, WI; 1 sister-in-law, 

Alice Carle of Leesburg, FL. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. 

Carle. 

 

Services will be held Thursday, July 16, 1998 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's 

Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Milan Weerts officiating. Burial 

will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Janesville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 

6:00 to 8:00 PM at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. Memorials are preferred to Rotary 

Gardens, St.  Paul's Lutheran Church or Hospice Care, Inc.
