William Tate Holland Jr. (1925 - 2015)





 HOLLAND, William Tate, Jr. (Bill) Born February 25, 1925, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Passed away January 27, 2015, in Dallas, Texas. Known to everyone as Bill, he had many friends whose life he touched. Bill graduated from Albany, Georgia, High School in 1942 and then attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia, prior to joining the United States Air Force. Bill served in the European Theater of Operations for 22 months with the 8th Air Force 100th Bomb Group, 349th Ordnance Squadron. His Group was awarded six Battle Stars and the Presidential Citation. Upon discharge in December 1945, Bill entered Georgia Tech and then transferred to The University of Georgia, graduating in 1948 with a BBA degree and as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Reserves. He served in the reserves with the 81st Infantry Division Headquarters as Assistant Adjutant General. While attending the University, Bill was very active in campus organizations. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Gridiron Secret Society, along with many other organizations. He also attended Emory University Law School evening classes for one year. Upon graduation from The University of Georgia, Bill joined Kraft Foods as Atlanta Plant Personnel Manager. He was promoted to Southern Division Personnel Manager in 1953. In 1957 his career with Kraft brought him to Texas as Director of Human Resources for the Southern Division of Kraft. He retired in October 1986 after 38 years of service. During Bill's life he held offices and participated in many school and civic organizations as well as church activities and ministries. At his death Bill was a very active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, having served the church as a delegate to the Annual Conference as well as a member and chairman of several church committees. Bill loved his church and every Sunday you would see him attending "In His Steps Bible Study Class" and the eleven o'clock sanctuary service. One of Bill's civic contributions, of which he was very proud, was being one of the co-founding members and being instrumental in the process of building the Memorial Hospital of Garland, now part of the Baylor Hospital Systems. He also served on the Board as Vice-Chairman and on the Finance Committee. Bill was also a member of Sons of American Revolution. Bill also served on the Board of The Dallas County Central Appraisal District and was associated with Briggs-Freeman Real Estate Brokerage. Bill was a member and officer in many civic clubs as well as a Master Mason, Knight Templer and a Shiner. Bill enjoyed fishing and was President of the Woodvale Fishing Club and also served on its board. At Presbyterian Village North, Bill served as Vice-President of the PVN Council, 2nd on the Executive Council, and served on other committees at the Village. He will be missed. Bill always had a smile on his face and, when asked to help or serve, he never said no. He used to say "To have a friend, you had to be a friend." He is survived by his former wife, Laura Jean Dupree Dyer Holland, and her three sons, Jim, Mike and Tom Dyer and their families, all of Dallas. His brother Byrd Odum Holland, nephew Tate Holland and wife, Kayci, niece Tara Holland, and great-niece Kaylie Holland and great-nephews, Ryan and Jake Holland, all of Burbank, California. Memorial Service will be on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas, Rev. Barbara Marcum officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Albany, Georgia. In lieu of flowers family request memorials be made to the William T. Holland Scholarship Fund at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas 75205 or to a charity of your choice .
