418TH SQDN..    CREW, AS ABOVE, JOINED THE 100TH ON 28 NOV 1943.. THIS CREW HAS APPEARED ON CREW COMBAT CREW ROSTERS AS CREW # 76.  CREW FLEW "ROYAL FLUSH/HARPER'S FERRY" AND "ROSIE'S RIVETERS II", NELSON KING



Lt James Harper writes: "Our Crew finished these missions together except for the co-pilot who was sick on two missions and made up those missions with another crew.  We had no combat injuries and our aircraft were never seriously damaged.  This listing of twenty missions flown by my crew early in 1944.  My diary does not mention the first seven missions"  (mpf 3/2001)  Received first 7 missions from Anne Cowing from Lt Cowing Flight Plan records.

8. 24/01/44 FRANKFURT Recalled 1/2 hour from target (weather). Group carelessly let down to 12,000 feet on way

     home and were attacked by flak guns over Ostend, Belgium, moderate damage.

9. 29/01/44 FRANKFURT Bombed through clouds. A 'Pathfinder" aircraft equipped with radar, signals attacking

     formations where to drop bombs.

10. 30/01/44 BRUNSWICK Bombed at 28,000 feet through clouds, Crew flew on "306" Nelson King

11. 03/02/44 WILHELMSHAVEN   Flew 6 1/2 hours in dense contrails.  Crew flew on "504" Rosie's Riveters

12. 05/02/44 VILLACOUBLAY 6 hours at 23,000 feet.  Crew flew on "504" Rosie's Riveters"

13. 13/02/44 NO-BALL V-1 Rocket sites.  Crew flew on "306" Nelson King

14. 21/02/44 BRUNSWICK #3 engine failed so we could not keep up with formation. On our own we dropped our bombs

     through clouds. Crew flew 238017 (LuLu)

15. 24/02/44 POSEN  Target overcast, bombed ROSTOCK

16. 25/02/44 REGENSBURG ME 109 AC plant.  10 hours clear

17. 28/02/44 NO-BALL Target hazy, brought bombs back

18. 29/02/44 BRUNSWICK Bombed city by Pathfinder (PFF), good fighter support by long-range P-51's

19. 03/03/44 BERLIN  Turned back over Denmark, Bad weather not in briefing forecast

20. 08/03/44 BERLIN  Ball bearing plant east of city, hit target in clear weather, our ball turret gunner got credit for 

     shooting down an enemy fighter plane.  9 hour mission

21. 15/03/44 BRUNSWICK Bombed by PFF

22. 16/03/44 AUGSBURG Bombed by PFF, 9 hours

23. 18/03/44 REGENSBURG Briefed for Airfield, hit MUNICH by PFF, 10 hours

24. 19/03/44 CALAIS  NO-BALL constuction area, heavy flak over target
