418TH SQDN.. CREW, AS ABOVE, JOINED THE 100TH ON 30 MAY 1944.
According to Lt Rowlands questionaire 10/3/00, S/Sgt William Ake was not on crew but he is listed in opps as flying with this crew on many missions.(mpf)

"Lt Rowland enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was sent to Wheeler Field, Hawaii. While waiting to get into aviation mechanics school, Pearl Harbor happened. I happened to be about two hundred yards from where the first bomb was dropped. After Dec 7, 1941, I applied and was accepted for Aviation Cadet Program. In October 1942, I was returned to the States to begin schooling at Santa Ana, California. Schooling continued at Ft Stockton, TX-Pecos, TX & Marfa TX where I received my wings on commission as a Second LT on August 31, 1943. Then was sent to Hobbs New Mexico to Start training as first pilot in B-17. Was sent to Salt Lake City Utah after completion of school to pick up my crew and head to Alexandria, Louisiana for more training. In April of 1944, we picked up our B-17G at Kearney Nebraska and flew to England" (Harvey Rowland 10/3/00 by mpf)
