From Jack O'Leary
In Ray's (Bowdens Plane Names and Bloody Noses) book,John Murphy claims they flew the last combat mission on THE LATEST RUMOR..# 306 on April 20th...(on CJ O'Leary's April 1945 flying records they did fly this COMBAT mission.(record shows 7:30 HRS, 1 landing)..However in regard to that April 25 food drop reference. CJ O'Leary's records show no flying on the 25th of April.. Only on the 26th, 2:40 HRS with
1 landing...(They did fly a CHOWHOUND on MAY 5th, I wonder if they simply got their dates mixed up?) I found another CONTRAILS customized invitation (with F/O CJ O'LEARY'S PHOTO) to mail in the $8.00 for the soon to be published unit history. The editors sent EVERYONE they photo as it was to appear in CONTRAILS,what a great idea as well as a time consuming one. (my dad lost his invitation, though I've got his copy of the book that cost him only $5.00 I wonder if he was an "early bird" and saved $3.00?...I told Bob's family to keep looking,he must have mailed in for it and Bob was a pack rat like me,he saved EVERYTHING which is great for his family history of his service. They will look even harder after I told them Bob's $8.00 purchase in 1947 was worth about $300.00 in 2004! Till later, Best Regards, Jack
