351st Sqdn.  Crew, as above, joined the 100th Group on 1/12/43.  A/C 231767 EP-E  "Our Gal Sal" 

Lt Glenn Hudson ended up being both Nav and Bomb for this crew when Lt Hudson was grounded due to illness and a suitable replacement Navigator could not be agreed upon. (Bob Shoens mpf 2001) 

 

On crew roster of 3/3/44, a Sgt. Edward R. Silverstone (changed his last name to Stone after the war) was on crew as BTG and Lt. H. Greenberg was the Navigator (Greenberg was a fill in Nav. until decided Lt Hudson would handle both Nav. and Bomb. duties).  

A S/Sgt Chester P. Coulam (may have been togg on this mission) who CPT on 27/5/44 appears on this crew roster of 8/3/44.





Sgt. Genevese- from NYC. At Kearny Nebraska, he could not take flying and was constantly ill during training.  He went overseas with the Crew.  In Training missions at Thorpe Abbotts, his illness continued and Lt Shoens asked the Squadron CO Ollie Turner for a replacement.  Sgt Edward R. Silverstone was picked from the gunners pool and flew all missions with this crew. Sgt Genevese was transferred to a ground job.  (Bob Shoens, mpf 2001)

ED SILVERSTONE (CHANGED TO STONE AFTER THE WAR) PASSED AWAY ON JAN 11, 2013 PASSED

Things here are taking shape.  Dad's funeral will be Saturday the 19th.  There will be a service at noon at the Kelley and Spalding Funeral home (1787 Deerfield road, Highland Park) and then we will drive to the cemetery where his ashes will be buried and there will be a color guard.  Following will be a get together at his house.  



  Dad had been going downhill fairly steadily since a fall in May and he had a major stroke last week.  He died Friday early morning, and there was not a long period of discomfort for which I am so thankful.  



  If you have a jpeg of a favorite photo or so to send over I will add them to the slide show that will run in the background at the service.  I have some of the classics in there already, including the interview you guys set up of Bob, Don, and Dad-never saw a more photogenic three characters before in my life!



  I am staying in his house this week getting as much paperwork done as I can.  



  It would have been nice if we had the ceremony on Thursday while Nancy was in town.  So nice of her to think of coming then--but it wound up on the weekend.  I am looking forward to seeing you all at the reunion!



  Thank you so much for all you do with the bomb group--it means so much to the Guys and all of us.

Edward R. Stone, 88, of Highland Park, passed away January 11, 2013. He was a WWII Veteran, 100th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. Edward worked as a salesman and sales manager for General Motors and The Fields Auto Group. Beloved husband of the late Carol, nee Peterson; loving father of Peter (Peachy), Mark (Kim) and Thomas (Michelle); cherished grandfather of Cody, Holly and April, Sarah, Willey (Jenny), Wilson and Christina and Katherine and Colleen; and dear brother of Joyce (Chet) Gottlieb. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 12 noon at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL.
