Robert "Bob" Kausrud, 83-- Here is the obit for Robert Kausrud,(TAPS 29 Oct,2008) ROG on the 2nd Lt. Emil V. Busch crew
New Richmond News, WI - 11/07/2008
Robert "Bob" Kausrud passed away Oct. 29, 2008, at The Deerfield Care facility in New Richmond.
He was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in Batavia, New York, and then Eau Claire, Wis. He graduated high school at University High in Kalamazoo, Mich. and attended Western Michigan for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp to serve in World War II. He had lifelong love of as he called it “God’s Green Cathedral” where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and being with nature. He also enjoyed playing the dulcimer and writing. Bob served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe from Oct. 1943 to 1946. He was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant 350th Bomb Squadron 100th Bomb Group. He was a radio operator and gunner and flew missions over Germany including the evacuation of prisoners from Dachau to Paris at the end of WWII. He also re-enlisted in 1953 during the Korean War.
My father Robert J Sweeney of Flint, Michigan was in the 350th,
passed away at the age of 52 yrs, on March 10, 1976 in Flint, Michigan.
Sadly, my father never talked much about his service in the war, and
we never even recieved An american flag at his funeral, much less any
military acknowledgements. I was 15 yrs old when he died in my arms
from suffering a heart attack at home. He was within 4 moths of
retiring from the City of Flint, Mi fire dept, where he was a
firefighter for over 24 years. If its possible please add him to the
taps list on this website. Thank you in advance.
Respectfully submitted,
His Son
Stephen M Sweeney
