350th Sqdn.  Joined 100th Group on 18/2/45.  This became a lead crew and Maj. David Lyster (350th BS C.O.) flew with this crew several times.  After 10 missions this crew went on Flak Leave to Belfast.  Cpl Francis Meyer was known as the "Black Sheep" of the Crew.

Hi, I am informing you of the death of my uncle, George Dobbelaere. I found a couple photos of him on your website. He died today NOVEMBER 3, 2010 at the veterans home in Sandusky Ohio. His wife Dottie, died last year. He would have been 90 tomorrow. Thanks for your website, I made my kids look at it tonight.

GEORGE J. DOBBELAERE, 89, of Defiance, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010 at Ohio Veteran's Home in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born Nov. 4, 1920 in Lucas County, Ohio. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, he was a pilot in WWII and flew "Flying Fortresses" of the 8th Air Force 100 Bomb Group over Germany from a base in London England. He was an Engineer at John-Manville, Defiance, Ohio, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Surviving are two sons, Dan Dobbelaere of Sherwood, Ohio and Scott Dobbelaere of Defiance, Ohio; two daughters, Diana (John) DeVeaux of Defiance, Ohio and Connie (Bob) Garland of Cincinnati, Ohio; three brothers, Morris and Henry, both of Oakwood, Ohio and Bob of Camden, Mich; sister, Doris Richmond of Wolcott-ville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Wallace) Dobbelaere, Oct. 10, 2008; brothers, Paul and Gerard; one sister in infancy, Mary Louise Dobbelaere. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, 529 Jefferson Ave., Defiance Ohio. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 5, 2010 at the funeral home. Graveside military rites by VFW Post 3360. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials to Alzheimer's Foundation, St. Mary's Catholic Church or Defiance County Hospice/The Caring Way.
