350th Sqdn.  Joined 100th Group on 18/2/45.  This became a lead crew and Maj. David Lyster (350th BS C.O.) flew with this crew several times.  After 10 missions this crew went on Flak Leave to Belfast.  Cpl Francis Meyer was known as the "Black Sheep" of the Crew.

Dear Mike:



Thank you for your correspondence of July 17.  I've checked with Carello

and he has nothing to add that we could be absolutely sure of.



However, after the war ended I was assigned to the A.T.C. (Air Transport

Command), and all my flying from then on was under their command.  I

found out their rules were very much different when it came to flying

than when we were flying under Air Force rules and regulations.  So, you

may need to check through their archives for my record of flights from

May 8th onward.



However, I do remember going to Hanover and Nuremberg, when it was, I

can't verify.  I especially remember Nuremberg because the Russians were

in charge of the airfield and we had some rough times convincing them

that we were not flying for the Russian Airforce and were not going to

be pushed around.  We were totally amazed at all the planes stored there

with engines, without propellers, (Jets).



If I can be of any further assistance in any way, please feel free to

give me a call.  I hope to be able to buy you a drink or two when I see

you in Houston.



Again, thanks a million for your assistance in enlightening me on the

workings of the 100th B.G. Federation for the past 60 years.

JOHN KRAUTER Peacefully at home on Thursday, November 24, 2016 in his 97th year. He is survived by his loving wife Claudette; daughter Kim (Ian) Sanderson; son Steve (Marie) Krauter; and daughters Fiona (Mark) Rudder and Jackie (Chris) Thompson. Predeceased by his sons Phil and Jimmy and by their mother Esther Krauter. Grandfather to Crystal (Wayne) Maki and to Krysta, Nicole, Ben, Brendan, Riley and Keely as well as 4 great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at NASSAGAWEYA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 3097 15 Side Road, Campbellville, on Tuesday, November 29th from 10 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with interment to follow.
