 MILLER, EDMUND P with some others in Hut 33 taken in hot weather, late summer 1945 along with others of my dads (W.G.SMITH) crew…If you check the GELLER CREW page he's listed as Edward P. at the top from Springfield,MA (same guy definitely in both photos)  and down the bottom of the page referenced as Sgt Edmund R Miller  WG  NOC…I also checked the personnel table and he's listed there as MILLER,E.R. S/Sgt  349th WG  NOC WILL,MA….After hostilities at some point,he was assigned to the 1st Lt. Kirsling CREW (probably to replace John Ringle ,TTE)…I found him listed on the  1 Sept,1945 349th Sqdn Combat Crew Assignment sheet as; Kirsling Crew # 2, SHIP # 752-0  E-S/Sgt Miller, Edmund P  Hut No 33…….Which makes sense,because he was listed as an asst. Engineer on the Geller crew……….

Just recently after my grandfather's death I discovered your web site.  What a great job you guys have done!!!  Words cannot be expressed at how blessed we are to find such a treasure trove of information and pictures, many of which we had never seen before.  Grandpa didn't talk much of the war until late in his life, I was afraid he had passed away with us never really knowing even the names of his crew from a crew picture.  We were so blessed to find your web site!  Since then I've learned so much about his missions through the logs and also the Personnel section with pictures.  I felt like I really got to know his crew!  Years after Grandpa got back from the war he had all of the insignia removed from his a-2 bomber jacket.  I guess the guilt of killing innocent people on the ground overshadowed his pride of service.  He even tried to give the jacket away.  In wanting to restore it with a picture of poor quality as a guide, I asked grandpa about a large design on the back of the jacket that couldn't be identified.  With his memory being compromised by illess and age he couldn't remember what the design was.  It wasn't until searching on your web site I found pictures of a donated A-2 jacket from one of his fellow crew members that had the same design!  The pictures on your site were so much cleared than the ones I had!  Looking at the picture on your website I also found that Grandpa's name was on the front of the jacket.  I am so thankful for your web site, it really makes a big difference when these items are shared for public viewing instead in being in someone's closet.  

 

My brother and I have also poured over years of Splasher Six newsletters that he kept.  We have found the accounts found in those so facinating and the stories so real that I can understand why it was so hard for him to talk about the war.  Facinating also in the comments and the notes that grandpa wrote next to stories "I remember that plane," "friend on this crew," or other times "tear jerker."    This from a man who never showed emotion.

 

Even typed journals make a difference!  I found an account of a new crew that was training and having their first missions while grandpa was finished with his last mission.  He account went on to describe the euphoria of Grandpa's Geller crew cleaning out their lockers and getting ready to ship out.  That was so exciting!  Grandpa also kept journals and at some point they will be shared among the family which I know will shed a lot of light on a time grandpa didn't talk about often.  

 

I'm sorry this e-mail has turned out to be so long, it is because of the impact your have made on our family!  It is also to make a request, I would give anything for the opportunity to talk to any surviving members of Grandpa's crew.  I see from TAPS that at least 2 are gone, maybe you could help me find others.  Here is his information:

Mr. Geller arrived at Thorpe Abbotts, 349th Bomb Squadron with his crew on 17 July,1944. Completed his combat tour of 34 missions 29 NOV, 1944 HAMM
