James Morrow

S/Sgt. James S. Morrow b.18 Mar. 1928 d. 24 May 1944 8th Air Force, 3rd Div, 100 th Bomb Gp. 350 Sq. In memory of S/Sgt. James S. Morrow, KIA 24 May 1944 while serving on the Delbert S. Pearson crew as Ball Turret Gunner on a B-17 aircraft #42-97095 (MACR 5168). This was James 13th mission and his second mission to Berlin in less than a week. James arrived at Thorpe Abbotts in early December 1943 on the Martin Tashjian crew. While on a training flight in an aircraft named “Fletcher's Castoria” to check the crew on land marks and procedure with their pilot Martin Tashjian at the controls, they crashed while landing. I do not believe the Tashjian crew ever flew together after that. Of the Pearson crew, all survived except James who went down with the plane. The Germans buried him in the Dreetz Community Cemetery. He was later moved to a military cemetery in Belgium. James is now buried in the family plot in Woodland Cemetery located in Salineville, Ohio. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE
