A casualty report Or 12/9/44 shows Wm C.Terry as MIA from Heironimus's A/C #43- 38161 over Germany
on 11/9/44. Since no ships of the 100th were missing that day, this was a bit of a puzzle. A letter
from Russell Gaines in Nov.1983 cleared the matter up. He states that "The crew was hit and
crashed landed in France. Bill Terry, I think, was knocked funny and bailed out and ended up a POW.
Ray Carl, flying in the waist was wounded, but I think recovered O.K. When they cut the crew from 10
to 9 men, I was taken off the crew and became a "spare" toggalier. Soon there were too many
"spares" and I was given a ground assignment I worked in the bldg. which was called Station Equip
that was the Briefing rooms and where the flying clothes were kept. That was what I did until the
war was over."
