JOHN BUNN John Markward Bunn, 91, of Las Vegas, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. He was born in April 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., son of Frank Linn Bunn and Ruth Markward Bunn. He was a resident of Missouri, Oklahoma, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, New Mexico and Tennessee before moving to Las Vegas in 1969. John worked as a crime reporter, political surveyor and book reviewer for newspapers in the Chicago area. Enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and was assigned to a B-17 bomber crew in England for the 8th Air Force "Bloody" 100th Heavy Bombardment Group. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. Graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1946 and went on to study at Columbia University until 1950. For the majority of his working life, John was employed as a Federal investigator until he retired after 25 years and took a position as assistant librarian at U.N.L.V. for ten years, retiring in 1983. He was active in veteran groups and was a member of the American Legion Post 55, N.I.C.A., Veterans in Politics and the 40 and 8. Published poet and author, John was a voracious reader and claimed to have read over 10,000 books in his lifetime. John is survived by his wife, Therese; his son, Frank; his daughter, Solange; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. John is remembered by his friends for his sense of humor and fondness of verse. Services to be announced.
