These pictures came from my Mimi’s scrapbook. My Grandfather, John W. Burgin, was MIA for 6mos after Alice from Dallas was shot down in Belgium.
The newspaper clippings are from my grandparents’ return to Belgium in the 70s. The picture of the couple shows the the woman who hid him in an attic in Paris across from Gestapo HQ. According to my mother, the woman’s 2yo child was shot by Nazis, but she is unsure when her daddy learned this information and if it was before she helped hide him. He told my mother the woman’s name, but she no longer remembers. The house is the Vangronsveld home and my grandfather was hidden in an upstairs room with a window on the right side

Dirk Thielens: In one of the evasion reports from the Alice from Dallas crew members I found the name of a couple that helped him out and they were called Marcel and Mariette. Maybe it is them. I am not sure however the picture was taken in Paris. If you look on the right side beneath is the name Gevaert. It is the name of the company that made the card. Gevaert is a typical Flemish/Belgian name.
