350th Bomb Squadron
This is my grandfather, John Bindas. Born June 26, 1919 and died November 18, 2011. He was 92. He came to the 100th from Hammond, Indiana and lived nearby in Highland, Indiana for the rest of his life. Courtesy of Granddaughter Kellie Bindas Fields

From St. Joseph, Missouri.
KIA 25-2-1944 as bombardier of B-17F / #42-30788 / LN-'R'/ 'Mismalovin' / MACR 2802. Target Fuerth, Germany. Hit by flak after bombing target knocking out an engine. The a/c became a straggler and was attacked by fighters. Crashed in the Channel off Sangatte/Calais, France. 5 MIA / 3 KIA / 2 POW.
1Lt Glasco is commemorated on the Ardennes Cemetery Walls of the Missing.

Hello,
Thank you for your wonderful site. I appreciate the photographs of my second cousin, Richard D. Hawkins. I found the attached letter written by my grandmother, Vera Hawkins, to my aunt, Emogene "Suzy" Hawkins Sweeney, in an old bureau in a basement. As all the mentioned people have passed away, I thought it would not be inappropriate to share this letter, especially because it reflects the contemporaneous feelings of a people engaged in a very difficult war, one that touched everybody.
