Years ago I went down the rabbit hole researching my grandpa, Joseph Carty, and his time with the 100th BG, and I've never emerged! Ever since, I've made in my mission to connect with the families of his crew members with the goal to share all the pictures and documents I've amassed over the years w/ each one. You never know what you'll discover. Through a bit of online detective work, I successfully tracked down the daughter of my grandpa's pilot, Randall Chadwick. Specifically, Randie Lou herself! Chadwick named his B17 "Randie Lou" after his daughter, and boy did she have a treasure trove. Most notably, she gave me a copy of Chadwick's 200+ page diary detailing his exploits day by day from the states up until the completion of his 1st tour (July 44'). The diary is full of stories of combat, crippling PTSD, and heavy drinking with his close pal John "49 Missions" Gibbons. Additionally, she gave me a picture of Chadwick painting the nose art of the Randie Lou on the hardstand! Talk about GOLD! She also provided an excellent painting of the Randie Lou in combat which was given to her by the copilot, William Buzzy Fitzroy, 30 years ago
