Dear friend,
Pursuant to request from the Commanding General, Eighth Air Force, the undersigned wishes to convey to you as the next of kin the sympathy and condolence of this Group upon S/Sgt. Norbert 0. DePauw, 37118776, 350th Bomb Squadron, being reported Missing in Action, 11 September 1944.
We feel that you would want to know that there was available to Norbert the full Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church together with the full-time services of a Catholic Army Chaplain. Hence the men of Catholic Faith are able to receive the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion before taking off on each Combat Mission.
You will be included in the Mass which is said on the First and Third Sunday of each month for all the living and deceased members of this Command, that God might give you strength in the uncertain days ahead.
Aloysius M. Phillipis
