On this Veterans Day, I would like to honor my dad, Frank Rossi. He was in the 100th Bomb Group, 1776 Ordinance Co based in Thorpe Abbotts. He was a member of the ground crew of a B17 and assigned as a shop foreman in the motor pool. He told us that he was asked to "volunteer" to be a tail gunner for several missions. He did see some action on several of those missions. While he did survive the war, he didn't survive cancer and passed away in 1970 at the age of 56.
