Thorpe Abbotts (Station 139)
Control Tower. Also shows where the station two letter identifier was - on toop of the tower! These were usually in the grass in front of the tower. Also confirms the ladder going up the east side of the tower.

Control Tower
Communal Site #1. The Enlisted Mess is just above the tennis courts (didn't know about
that!) and the Sergeants' Mess is at the top of the photo. The Sergeants' Mess has what
appears to be a Projection Extension on it so I would guess it was used for showing
movies. Just speculation at this point. In the upper left of the photo is the end of the
Standby Generator building. At the lower left is a building identified on the airfield plans
as the "Grocery and Produce Store". It still exists and is referred to by the Museum staff
as the Red Cross building. I wonder if that has been confused with the "Red Cross Aero
Club" which shows up in another photo…Karl Hauffe (Jan 2006)

WAAF site #1. My understanding is this area was used by officers, both flying and ground...Karl Hauffe (Jan 2007)

“Red Cross Aero Club”. Note the tennis court in the top of the photo in order to locate it on Communal Site #1

“Red Cross Aero Club
Chow line and Mess hall 1943 is actually part of Site 3. Latrine and Ablutions building are shown in upper part of picture and the short Nissen is identified as a picket post (there was supposed to be one at each site) but may have been used for other purposes. The one at Site 4 was used as a Post Office

Site 3
Communal Site #1 again, probably taken from (or close to) the tennis court. Again the Standby Generator building makes an appearance in the upper left.
