Purple Heart of Edwin J. Laughran, KIA 6 MAR 44. Kendall crew information.

The Wilch family. Top from left: Veryl, Clarence, Merton, Cletus. Bottom from left: Kyle, Tressie, Charlies, Harold. Cletus was in Patton's 3rd Army as a chaplain. Kyle was in the 762nd Naval Construction Battalion. Harold was in the Navy on a transport ship, Clarence was in the Army, assigned to Guam for refrigeration maintenance duties. Veryl was a ground crewman in the Army Air Corps stationed in the South Pacific, and Merton was a TTE with the 100th Bomb Group. All six brothers made it home safely.

Mrs. Tressie Wilch shown in photo from local newspaper. Caption read: MANY STARS IN FAMILY FLAG. The picture above would be a familiar sight to the six sons of Mrs. Charles Wilch, Richland. The old rocking chair, the wall phone with its hand crank, and the farm calendar on the wall, are just as they were before the boys left. All of her six sons are in the armed forces --four in the Army, two in the Navy.
