The four marked with an asterisk are memorialized on THE WALL OF THE MISSING. AT CAMBRIDGE. On the mission to Hamburg on December 31, 1944, Lt Mayo was flying in the "B" Squadron, Low flight, last aircraft. At 12:25 pm William Mayo who had fallen out of formation and was jumped by fighters. Lt Mayo called on VHF over Bremenhaven at 13,000 feet in heavy flak with two engines out"

A. J. Cohen, Jr. - SAVANNAH - A. J. Cohen, Jr., 93, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Gloria Kelly Stein Cohen, died Wednesday afternoon, February 5, 2014, at Hospice Savannah. Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, he was a son of the late A. J. Cohen, Sr. and the late Mildred Kahn Cohen. Mr. Cohen was a lifelong member and past president of Congregation Mickve Israel. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army where he was attached to the 100th Bomb Group of the Mighty Eighth during World War II. He later served stateside during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Cohen continued the tradition as a 4th generation merchant serving the Savannah community from 1859 until 1992. He retired after 40+ years as owner and operator of The Lady Jane Shop. Mr. Cohen was affectionately known as the Mayor of Bull Street. He believed strongly in community service. He served on the Park and Tree Commission for 17 years and was a past president of the National Retail Merchants Association. Mr. Cohen founded Lady Jane's Foster Children's Tennis Tournament and Road Race. He was a charter member of L'Alliance Francaise. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Gloria Kelly Stein Cohen of Savannah, GA; three sons, A. J. Cohen III and his wife, Kimberly, of Denver, CO, Sanford Marc Cohen of Flat Rock, NC, and George S. Cohen and his wife, Ruth, of Savannah, GA; one daughter, Julia Cecile Cohen of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren, Addison J. Cohen, Chaya S. Cohen, Alexa G. Cohen, Laila R. Cohen and Jared S. Cohen, and one sister, Valerie C. Kassel and her husband, Milton, of Atlanta, GA. The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas.
